Caffeine...the truth!

“Light roasts have more caffeine.”
“Dark roasts have more caffeine.”

Jiminy Cricket! It is a mess of inaccurate information out there (truth!). So how do we sort it out? By research! And using reliable sources (not Facebook or friends). Like so much in coffee land caffeine levels depend on the type of bean, the area where the bean is grown, processing of said bean, roasting and of course how that bean is finally brewed. Those are a lot of variables. Scientifically, too many variables to have a bottom-line number which is why most sources say an average 8 oz. cup of coffee has between 70-140 mg of caffeine. That is quite a range. Therefore, the most accurate way to test the caffeine level in a cup is to do an actual caffeine level test for each cup. Super impractical.

Plan B: Need more caffeine, drink more coffee. Or...add a couple of espresso shots to whatever you are drinking to increase the caffeine level. One ounce of espresso is approximately equal to an 8 oz cup of coffee. As far as roasts go, drink what tastes good. The roast will have a less significant effect on the caffeine level than the brewing process does. So don’t buy into the myths. Coffee is a pleasure. It should be the easiest part of your day. Brew, sip and say ahhhhh!
