After a year sabbatical Maria’s Blog is happy to be back!

All is well, I was just goofing off :)

I shall start where I left off with Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month. It goes from September 15th to October 15th. September 15th being the date of independence for several Central American countries (check out my previous blog for more details).

Why so important? Well, when you drink your average coffee it is most probably from Central or South America. Brazil produces the most beans in the world. So, the coffee that is supplied at work or school or…prison for you is probably Brazilian Robusta coffee. Robusta beans are cheaper to grow therefore used in most commercial coffees versus Arabica beans, way better beans, which WE use! Yum!

But I digress…this “month” we celebrate and salute all things Hispanic & Latino. So much of this culture has been main streamed that the source is not really appreciated.

The most obvious is the food. Black beans, salsa & pico are in my diet every week. Jiminy Cricket, you can get a “Breakfast Burrito” at gas stations!

Let’s take this time to think about and appreciate all we have received from such a wonderful, large diverse community and be thankful we are not all the same.

Gracias y hasta luego.

Maria
